The Marble Falls High School team tennis team beat Belton New Tech 19-0 Sept. 5 to go to 3-0 in District 25-4A play.
“The kids played well,” head coach Samuel Whitley said. “They stepped up to the challenge. Two starters didn’t play. They stepped to the challenge.”
Five matches went to tiebreakers, and Marble Falls “won them all,” he said.
Two of those matches were played by Nevaeh Nelson (Montoya) at No. 1 girls singles and Landon Farris at No. 5 boys singles.
“They lost the first sets,” Whitley said. “They came back in the second set and tiebreaker.”
Marble Falls welcomes Litter River Academy (3-0) in a battle for first place at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
Whitley praised his players for what they did months leading up to the start of the season, pointing out it’s why they are enjoying the lopsided victories now.
“The kids work hard,” Whitley said. “They put in the time in the spring and summer. It’s paying off now.”
